Contact Timeline
The Contact Timeline gives every contact a complete, time-ordered history: one place to see everything that has happened to them and everything they've done, from the moment they were added to your list through every email you sent them and every open, click and unsubscribe.
What it records
The timeline records two kinds of event against each contact:
- Lifecycle events: the contact was added to a list, its details were edited, or it was moved to another list when lists were merged or split.
- Engagement events: broadcasts, trigger emails and drip emails sent to the contact, opens, link clicks, bounces, spam complaints and unsubscribes.
See Timeline Event Types for every event and the details it shows.
The timeline is switched on for every Mumara ONE account, and events are recorded automatically as they happen. There's nothing to set up or tag.
Open a contact's timeline
There are two ways in.
From the contact panel
- Go to Contacts → View/Search Contacts, or open a list's contacts from Lists → Contact Lists.
- Click the contact's name or email address in the Contact column. The contact's panel slides open.
- Click Subscriber Timeline to expand it.
The panel also shows the contact's status (Active or Inactive), its Subscription Information (group, list, whether it's unsubscribed, bounced or confirmed, when it was created and its format) and its Subscriber Details (field values), plus an Edit Contact button. See The contact panel.
On its own page
Open the contact's Actions menu and choose Subscriber Timeline. The page, Subscriber Timeline of the contact's address, shows the same history with more room to read it.
Read the timeline
- Newest first. The most recent event is at the top.
- Load More loads older events, a few at a time. End of Timeline means you've reached the oldest one.
- No Data Available means nothing has been recorded for the contact yet.
Each event shows:
- what happened, such as A broadcast was sent. or Has clicked on a link.
- details such as the list, the broadcast, the campaign or the subject line
- the date and time, in your account's time zone
Details link to the item they relate to: a list opens its contacts, a broadcast opens the broadcast, and a campaign opens its statistics under Statistics → Broadcast Stats. If the item has since been deleted, the event stays in the timeline and shows, for example, Deleted from list instead of a link.
What it's good for
The timeline answers questions about one person:
- When, and to which list, was this contact added?
- Which of my emails did they receive, and when?
- Did an email to them bounce, or did they unsubscribe or complain?
- Which links have they clicked?
- Why is this contact on a list nobody remembers adding them to?
See Timeline Use Cases for worked examples. For numbers across a whole campaign, trigger or automation, use Statistics instead.
Good to know
- History starts when events are recorded. Nothing is reconstructed for activity from before the timeline was available on your account.
- Each contact has its own history. The same address on two lists has two timelines, and a contact that's deleted and added again later starts a new one.
- Opens are weaker evidence than clicks. Some mail apps load images automatically, which records an open whether or not anyone read the email.
