Trigger Stats

Statistics → Trigger Stats shows how your triggers are performing: how often each one has fired and, for triggers that send email, how the recipients responded. You create triggers under Actions → Triggers; see Triggers.

Drip campaigns are reported here too. A drip group sends when a trigger starts it, so its statistics sit under that trigger.

How trigger statistics add up

Triggers collect statistics differently from other campaigns:

  • A broadcast sends once, and its report covers that one send.
  • An evergreen campaign sends on a schedule, and each run has its own report.
  • A trigger fires whenever its condition is met, and its report keeps adding up for its whole life.

So a trigger showing 145 in Total Actions has acted 145 times since it was created, whether that took a day or a year. The figures keep growing for as long as the trigger is active.

The Trigger Stats list

The page is titled Trigger Statistics and has one row per trigger, most recently active first.

ColumnWhat it shows
IDThe trigger's number.
NameThe name you gave the trigger.
AudienceHow the trigger picks contacts. See Audience.
Trigger ActionWhat the trigger does when it fires. See Trigger actions.
Total ActionsHow many times the trigger has acted since it was created.
Last ActivityWhen it last fired, in your account's time zone. ... if it hasn't fired yet.
DetailsClick the chart icon for the trigger's report. Only triggers that send email have one; the others show ....

Use Search to find a trigger by name, and Show entries to change how many appear on each page.

For triggers that don't send email, Total Actions and Last Activity are the statistics: they show how often the trigger has acted, and when it last did.

Send Broadcast triggers

For a Send Broadcast trigger, the chart icon opens a report on every email the trigger has sent. The page title names the broadcast, with the trigger's name underneath.

It has the same tabs as a broadcast's report: Summary, Opened, Clicked, Unsubscribed, Bounced, Complaints, Logs and A/B, with Export Options at the top. See Broadcast Stats for what each tab shows. A few things differ:

  • The figures cover the trigger's whole life. New opens, clicks and bounces keep appearing for as long as the trigger fires, and the Logs tab can span months.
  • The Summary is a table rather than cards. It lists the trigger's lists, broadcast and pools (under Sending Nodes), its Status (Running or Paused), the audience size, Sent, Skipped, Opened, Clicked, CTR, Bounced and Unsubscribed, and its tracking settings. The Top Domains, Opened vs Unopened and Countries by Email Opened charts sit alongside.
  • Campaign duration shows how long the trigger has existed, because a trigger has no finish time.
  • There's no Live switch. Reload the page to see the latest figures.

Start a drip group triggers

For a Start a drip group trigger, the chart icon opens Trigger Details for the trigger, headed with:

FieldWhat it shows
Drip groupThe drip group the trigger starts.
AudienceList, Lists or Segment, depending on how the trigger picks contacts.
List, Lists or SegmentThe names of the lists or segments.

Below is a table with one row per drip in the group:

ColumnWhat it shows
IDThe drip's report number.
Drip NameThe drip's name.
IntervalInstant, or the delay after the trigger fires for the contact, such as 1 Days or 3 Hours. Each drip's delay counts from the trigger, not from the previous drip.
Last ActivityWhen this drip last sent an email.
SentEmails this drip has sent, across everyone who reached it.
OpenedUnique opens / total opens.
ClickedUnique clicks / total clicks.
UnsubscribedContacts who unsubscribed through this drip.
DetailsClick the chart icon for the drip's full report.

Reading down the table shows you how the sequence performs step by step. Sent normally falls from one drip to the next, as contacts unsubscribe or haven't reached the later drips yet. A sharp drop in opens, or a jump in unsubscribes, at one drip points to that drip's content or timing.

A drip's report

Click a drip's chart icon to open its report, headed Drip Results. The page title names the drip, with its drip group and trigger underneath. It has the same tabs as a broadcast's report and Export Options.

The Summary table shows:

FieldWhat it shows
Campaign nameThe drip's name.
Drip group and TriggerWhere the drip belongs.
AudienceHow the trigger picks contacts, followed by the lists or segments.
Sending NodesThe pools the drip group sends through.
Start time and Drip ageWhen the drip first sent, and how long it has existed.
StatusWhether the trigger is Running or Paused.
Sent, Skipped, Opened, Clicked, CTR, Bounced, UnsubscribedThe drip's results, calculated as for a broadcast.
Track Opens, Track Clicks, Insert Unsubscribe Link, Scheduled byHow the drip was set up.

Reading trigger performance

How often it fires

  • A high Total Actions means the condition is met often. Make sure that's what you intended, especially for triggers that send email.
  • A low Total Actions can mean the condition is narrow or the audience is small.
  • Zero on a trigger that's switched on means its condition has never been met. Review its settings under Actions → Triggers.

Whether it's still working

  • A recent Last Activity confirms the trigger is firing.
  • An old Last Activity on a trigger that should fire often suggests something changed, such as the list it watches no longer receiving new contacts.

How recipients respond

For triggers that send email, open the report and check:

  • Open and click rates, which show whether the email is relevant at the moment it's sent
  • Bounces, which point to the quality of the addresses entering the trigger, for example from a web form
  • Unsubscribes and complaints, which rise when a trigger fires too often or its email doesn't match what the contact expected. See Bounces and Complaints.

Good practice

  • Review Total Actions and Last Activity regularly.
  • Refresh the content of long-running trigger emails now and then.
  • Switch off triggers you no longer need, so they don't keep acting on new contacts.
  • Keep separate triggers for separate audiences, so each report tells you about one group of people.
